There are three specialist Art rooms, a computer suite and two workshops within the department. We offer a wide curriculum across years 7, 8, 9 and GCSE. There are 5 members of staff teaching Art and Design Technology this year.
Pupils participate in all disciplines of Art and Design Technology including drawing, painting, printmaking, clay work, papier mâché, ICT work, batik, wood and metal work. At GCSE we are offering Photography as part of the unendorsed course.
Homework is set regularly to support the work being carried out in school and to extend the pupils learning further.
In year 7 pupils will study many different aspects of Art and Design. Their first year will be split up into three main areas, painting and drawing, printmaking and three dimensional studies.
Within the drawing and painting skills module, pupils will learn about all of the basic drawing skills including how to add tone and shading to their work. Skills will also be developed in the use of colour where pupils will learn about colour mixing.
Three dimensional design is the second module of the year which specialises in clay construction. Pupils will have an introduction into all of the techniques required to produce a finished mask, based on the theme of cultures. Knowledge will also be gained of how to add colour to the mask by the use of different oxides and glazes.
Pupils study the theme of shells in the final module, looking closely at patterns and shapes.
They will learn about how to make a print block and how to print from it.
