Fundraising for Children in Need

Following on from the success of Summer School, the students decided to set up the Holyhead Smoothie Company to make and sell smoothies to students and staff. This was part of Enterprise Week as well as an opportunity to raise money for Children in Need.

National Enterprise Week 13th - 19th November

Enterprise Week is an annual UK-wide week of activities inspiring people in their teens and twenties to be enterprising - to turn ideas into something real.

National Enterprise week took place at Holyhead School from the 13th to the 17th of November, with many business ideas by students put into practice. Click here to find out what happened.

Holyhead Smoothie Company carried out market research based on the fresh fruit available and the most popular tastes among staff and fellow students. The end result was the creation of two flavours Perfect Peach and Scrumptious Strawberry. (Apologies we cannot include the recipes because they contain a special secret ingredient!!).

S’EEN

Launched in May of 2006 at Birmingham’s international convention centre, the Schools’ Enterprise Education Network or S’EEN is a government lead nation wide initiative, committed to fostering an entrepreneurial culture which values enterprise and ambition within secondary schools.

With an emphasis on providing Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for all secondary school staff, S’EEN aim to engender enterprise pedagogy that seeks to nurture an understanding of SME (Small to Medium sized Enterprises) and corporate business culture.

The students divided themselves into groups. Each group made the drinks one afternoon after school and then sold them the following day.

Thank you to the Nat West Bank who sponsored the Holyhead Smoothie Company for £20.00. This was used as the start up costs needed to buy the ingredients.

The money raised for Children in Need was £93.73.

Thank you to Miss Robinson for helping the students. Their next venture—frozen smoothies in the summer term!

Good Hair Day

Raising money for Children in Need by Samina Kumar 10Y

My friend Mandeep Tak 10Y and myself wanted to raise money for charity but we found it hard to think of something to do.

One weekend we thought of a brilliant funky plan. We spoke to Mr Bayliss to get permission. He happily agreed.

When we walked into school on the 17th November there wasn’t a head that did not turn. At first people thought we were weird but by the end of the day we were praised for our bravery. We managed to raise £67.95 for Children in Need. We are extremely proud of ourselves.
